Our associate, Andy Holliday, has been a consultant specialising in technology and cyber security for 20 years. Based in the North West, not a million miles away from Manchester, he's no stranger to traveling all over the UK and sometimes the world with his work. In this latest blog, people-person Andy explains why face-to-face meetings can never be fully replaced with video conferencing and tells us why flexible resource is the future of consulting:

The most satisfying elements of my job are meeting people and getting to understand different environments and ways of working, whilst always looking at the latest trends.

Working with Iridium suits me down to the ground. Not only do I like the people, I really enjoy the flexible nature of the business. I think using specialist, flexible resource is definitely the future; it’s a win win for companies, clients and individuals alike. It keeps things fresh and innovative, which is so important in the fast moving world we operate in today.

For me, the pandemic has meant a huge increase in video calling, which is vital to keep in touch. Previously I would meet people in person, which is more more effective in building a rapport. Moving forward, I believe I will continue to use video-calling much more, but still will try to get out and about when I can.

Whilst not hugely surprising, it’s incredibly saddening to see the sheer volume of cyber attacks using COVID-19 as a ruse. It’s terrible that criminals are capitalising on tragedy and a global pandemic to prey on people and companies to try to commit fraud.

In the future, remote working and use of cloud and collaboration tools will increase exponentially, companies will really focus and prioritise on their investment portfolios and focus on customer and staff experiences in light of the increased fragmentation of the workforce.
