Remote Desktop: A useful tool, but no revolution
Remote Desktop has maintained its place as a practical technology, but it hasn’t revolutionised the industry as I once thought it might. Meanwhile, one of my other 2024 predictions—AI—has undoubtedly taken centre stage, reshaping workflows and innovation. That’s one forecast I can confidently say was spot on.
AI in 2025: A focus on data quality
AI once again earns its spot on this year’s list, with the spotlight shifting towards the importance of data. To unlock AI’s potential, organisations must prioritise the quality, security, and organisation of their data.
For instance, tools like Microsoft’s CoPilot are seamlessly integrating with business databases, emails, and document systems. This makes it essential for organisations to ensure their data is not only well-structured but also ready for exposure.
At Iridium, we’ve seen a surge in demand from clients looking to optimise their data pipelines. From ingestion and transformation to categorisation and accessibility, businesses are recognising the competitive advantage of well-managed data.
Low-Code and No-Code Platforms: Enabling innovation for all
The rise of Low-Code and No-Code platforms is another transformative trend for 2025. These tools empower users to create sophisticated applications—spanning user interfaces, workflows, and integrations—without writing traditional code.
AI integration has further enhanced these platforms, enabling users to simply describe their needs in plain language, with the platform generating fully functional solutions in response.
Microsoft PowerApps remains a leader in this space, but newer players, like Creatio, are making waves with their sleek, user-friendly interfaces. These platforms democratise not only app development but also organisational workflows, allowing functional consultants and subject matter experts to take on roles traditionally reserved for developers.
Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang has often spoken about the “death of coding.” While we’re not there yet, the combination of Low-Code platforms and AI assistants is undoubtedly propelling us closer to this vision.
Quantum Computing: Significant progress, but still a way to go
Quantum Computing remains a promising field, but mainstream adoption is still some distance away. Nonetheless, the sector has seen remarkable achievements, such as Google’s development of a 105-qubit quantum processor.
This milestone stirred discussions about quantum computers’ ability to disrupt current encryption standards, though experts reassure us that such capabilities would require machines with over 13 million qubits. Despite these limitations, advancements like Google’s demonstrate meaningful progress in the field.
While Quantum Computing holds incredible potential, it is unlikely to see widespread business adoption in the immediate future.
Blockchain and Bitcoin: Moving into the financial mainstream
Blockchain technology hasn’t yet achieved ubiquity, but Bitcoin—a key application of Blockchain—stands out as a major force shaping 2025.
Over the years, Bitcoin has experienced dramatic fluctuations and persistent scepticism. However, 2024 marked a turning point, with global financial giants such as BlackRock and Fidelity launching Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). These products broke records for demand, reflecting a growing institutional interest in Bitcoin.
As regulatory frameworks improve and discussions around Bitcoin reserves at the national level gain traction, I expect it to play a significant role in both technological and financial conversations in the year ahead.
Looking forward
As we move into 2025, it’s clear that the technology landscape will continue to evolve at pace. Whether it’s the democratisation of app development, the optimisation of data for AI, or the growing influence of Blockchain and Bitcoin, businesses that adapt and innovate will be best positioned for success.
